Celebration of Life: Funke Akinokun Buries Mother Aged 76 in Efon, Ondo State, Nigeria.
It’s been 76 years Chief (Mrs) Benedicta Oliatan Koyepo stood as a mighty tree amidst the forest trees. She had mothered the best of the most beautiful standing trees and one of which to reckon with is her very own daughter, Funke Akinokun.
Within her root was a shinning light caused by a rare gem. This was the only reason why Chief (Mrs) Benedicta Oliatan Koyepo could survive years without rain or even the rising of the Sun.
Funke was by the Spring with her friends singing Hallelujah song and drawing water when the news of a peculiar fallen tree came reaching her. Her heart skipped when she suspected and prayed it wasn’t what she was thinking. She felt as if the Sun had covered herself in the blanket of unfaithfulness. She even claimed she saw God going on a vacation! But one thing kept her curiosity of her hope alive beyond death, that the Spring she was drawing water from didn’t run dry even though her mother Pillar had been taken away.

On her way to confirm the news, Funke saw the Angels carrying her mother off into the clouds of glory. She stopped them, challenged them, and asked a thousand questions as to why they carried her away. She probed the Angels further and said, “Why not keep her here on Earth just a little longer?” The Angels smiled and sang to her a beautiful song.
The tears that dripped down Funke Akinokun’s eyes could drown a little island, yet she listened to the song the Angels sang to her. The lyrics were hopeful, eternal and at the end, comforting. After she had received a rare rendition of the Angels, her heart received comfort, and she called her friends. Telling them to make haste from the Spring.
The news of her mother being carried away by Angels made her friends feel stone cold on the inside. When she saw this, she knew just what to do. She began to render the same rendition the Angels served her. Thus were they comforted and invited people from all works of life.
Among her singing friends were Odunayo Aboderin, Femi Okunuga, Bolaji Banjoko a.k.a Beejay Sax, Bolaji Olarenwaju a.k.a BigB, Tosin Alao, Damilola Bekes, Bukola Bekes, Olutayo Akin Folarin Ibiyeye, Ibitayo Jeje, Sabina Umoren, Adesanmi Michael, Wole Oni and Michael Akingbala.
In the lyrics of the Angels, with instruments of praises, they turned up the atmosphere as they sang to celebrate the life and death of Chief (Mrs) Benedicta Oliatan Koyepo, Iyaloja of Ifon, Ondo State.
Funke Akinokun is a gospel music minister signed on to the One Hallelujah Records.
