According to the latest FIFA Coca Cola world rankings released on FIFA’s official website on Thursday 13th of September 2017, the Super Eagles did not do enough to remain or move up the ranking as they dropped six places from 38th to 44th position in the world despite a close to hundred percent impressive two legged FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier results against Cameroon.
Cameroon also in the same group as Nigeria in the world cup qualification, just like the Eagles, dropped in the rankings. The Africa Cup of Nations champions dropped 10 places from 35th to 45th in the world.

Libya who are also in Group E made a little improvement as they move up two places to 81st.

The basic logic of these calculations as indicated on FIFA official website is simple: any team that does well in world football wins points which enable it to climb the world ranking. A team’s total number of points over a four-year period is determined by adding the average number of points gained from matches during the past 12 months and the average number of points gained from matches older than 12 months (depreciates yearly).
