THE (“Public Limited Company”) “P.L.C” OF FAITH
Beth is awake and ready for the day. She checks her calendar, it’s a new month. Hurriedly, she gets her mobile phone from the socket where she had left it to regain battery power. Kicking off with her morning devotion which she knew it will help her Faith grow and being eager to go to school that day, she remembers her commitment. A straight face over shadowed her face, as the thought of embarrassment engulfs her like a fire. Just last week, last week Friday, during the morning assembly, the school management had already employed a Preacher to teach the students in the way of the Lord. She accepted the call of Jesus Christ and decided to follow Him. Ever since her experience, her saucy behavior towards students and teachers had change, almost overnight.
Many times in the Bible, if we search diligently, the bible never gave an express definition of the word ‘Faith’. A lot of Preachers have raised theories and philosophy for the meaning of the word ‘Faith’. Some can be accepted and others are just as confusing as the Preacher.
Faith is so much encompassing in Life that believers might not dig deep into it until the second coming of Jesus. We have managed to scratch the surface though. Kudos to those who helped us but, it is never enough. Going straight to the bible, we’ll find several instances of Faith and several notions of the scripture that posed a summary of the meaning of Faith.
Hebrews 12:2a; ‘Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…’
This scripture relates Faith to Jesus in the most authoritative way, helping us to understand that Jesus wrote a book on Faith, by calling him the author and finisher. I can easily say that this is the best definition for the word ‘Faith’. Even the most popular scriptures that was written by Apostle Paul in Hebrews 11:1; ‘Now faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen’, may not give many people a simple meaning to the word ‘Faith’.
AS FOR ME, I will like to take another scripture and say it is the best understanding we can attach to Faith which is, ‘But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.’ Hebrews 11:6.
This scripture for me makes the word ‘Faith’ gives more light on her origin and her purpose. If you seek God concerning anything, He expects us to behave in such a way that we have in our minds and heart that He is our Father who is faithful to give us whatsoever we ask of Him. He expects us to behave in such a way that will be noticeable to everyone around us without fear or favor or eye service.
Take this little Example; If your Father is a very rich man, if you tell him to give you a very expensive car, and he says, ‘Ok, you will get it tomorrow.’ Sincerely, you will not any string of worry within you especially if he is a father that keeps to his words, not just being rich, one that lacks integrity. Your Faith will not shake no matter what anybody tells concerning your Father. Even if your mum tells you that your father can’t afford the very expensive car, you will just ignore and not doubt your Father. Infact, you would have told your friends that your father is getting you a new car and they will also believe with you because they know your father. This is the exact attitude God wants us to exhibit towards Him, because He takes us as his children.
‘Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.’ John21:5
Talking about the PLC-Faith, it simply means, taking your Faith Publicly, making your Faith Known to others, believers or not.
The obvious example here is the case of Beth, the little story that preceded this article. Beth had just accepted the gospel and leadership of Jesus Christ and her life became a new creature. Thereby, everything about her began to change rapidly.
Beth used to be saucy and rude, although she was good at her academics but her character made her a lot of enemies, even herself. The preacher that was employed by her school management had ministered the Word of God to all the students and few of them got converted including Beth which was a shock to most students. She had become the top talking point in the lips of every student but that wasn’t new because she had always been popular, even her beauty added to that. Now, the case is different, she born again and discriminated by her friends and some teachers for her new found faith. Beth decided to hide her faith completely away from the public and…
