MARTYRS ARE BORN
“When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” Acts 7: 54-60
Martyrs are born nowadays more often than none because of this social unrest and insecurity in Nigeria.
“Mrs. Eunice Elisha was murdered in Kubwa area of Abuja, FCT, in the early hours of the day. Her neck was slashed and she was also stabbed in the stomach. About a month ago in Kano, Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme, a 74 year old Christian was murdered at Wambai market due to an altercation with a Muslim man who came to the front of her shop to perform ablution. Her offence was that she objected to the Islamic washing rite in front of her shop”.
With the news of the death of this young and married evangelist, it burns to the heart of every reasonable and sincere Christians that such a life should be avenged. Yet, for those of us that knows and understands what Jesus said concerning things like these will dare to rejoice on her behalf, we will dare to celebrate her as a Martyr. Yet, we send this as a message of condolence to her family, that the Holy Spirit, and Jesus the Righteous Judge will take preeminence of the situation. Better still that the evil doers should repent and let Christ take charge of their lives so that we can all live in peace.
Her death is indeed painful and this pain did Stephen and his followers did experience when Stephen was stoned to death because he dared preach the gospel of Christ. At the point of his death, he prayed that God would not lay his blood upon them as a sin against them.
Stephen despite all odds ministered the gospel amongst people who never wanted to hear him even though they were convinced that he was preaching the only truth.
This is Christianity, this is the Life that Jesus has called us to Live in him and through him. he said it before he left for heaven that we shall face such challenges. So I will say that most of us are not facing the challenges Christ wants us to face because he had overcome it.
Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
