FREDRICK DOUGLASS —–{continued}

He remembered how his Pastor prayed in church, so he said, “Father let you will be done unto me like as it is written in the book of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
This he learnt how to pray according to the Word of God that is Quick and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword… Hebrews 4:12.
Here is the lesson that we must learn, never pray according to how you feel, for we have been told to walk by faith and not by sight or feelings as it is written in 2Corinthians 5:7.
Most importantly, we must understand the rules of engagement when it comes to praying to God. We must pray according to the Will of God and how can that be done, where can we find such understanding?
Jesus taught his disciples how to pray and the same teaching applies to us as it was recorded in Matthew 6:9-15.
“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” –verse – 9
This verse ascribes to the understanding that you must have a relationship with GOD the Father before you can call him Father, if not, if you have not yet giving your life to Christ Jesus or you had backslidden, then you are a bastard. But ifk you know him and accept him and obey him, he will love you and accept you.
In this same verse, the word “Hallowed” which means “Holy” and it is used as an adjective to qualify the name of God. We call him God but He has a name, as it is written in Philippians 2:9, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every other name, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in Earth, and things under the Earth. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
If you must pray, you must call on Jesus to gain access to the Father. The name of Jesus is holy, and you must be holy to call on that name, Jesus, before you can get any response from the arm of his saving grace, 1Peter 1:16.
Verse 10 – “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
This verse signifies that there is a Will of God that is in heaven which needs to be done on Earth. I call it an assignment from Heaven given to men-contractors on Earth. First you need to know this Will. How do you know what the Will of God is when you are not in heaven?
Simple, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things God hath prepared for they that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
You need the Holy Spirit to know the Will of God in heaven that must be done on Earth.
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13.
Frederick Douglass learnt this the easy way, I don’t want you to learn this the hard way. I don’t want you to pray and pray amiss as it is warned in James 4:3; “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
Ask according to the Will of God
