Your Gift A Highway to Prominence
(The Rise of Joseph – Genesis 37)
Proverbs 18:16, ‘A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.’
The story of Joseph should not be new to you if you read your bible often. Reading the bible is what can really help you grow through your Christian life.
Today, we’ll talk about gift. In the context of today’s article, gift we’ll be referred to as talent or divine gift. Joseph was a young boy when he discovered that he had a gift, with his level of understanding then, he could barely do much with it. His gift was given to him by God for a certain purpose and his attention was not acquainted to that purpose until certain events took place in his life.
‘Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age Also he made him a tunic (coat) of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.’ Genesis 37: 3-5.
This particular event orchestrated the course of his destiny; his gift led him to enter into a chain reaction of the evil perpetrated by his brother’s who envied him, not just because of the fact that his father loved him more, but because his dream was true, that he will someday rule over them, even his parents got angry with him at this point.
Let me help you understand something here, becareful whom you tell your dream, no matter how interesting it may look. If you don’t know the interpretation, if you don’t understand it, go to someone you’ve tested trust worthy of your secrets. Another thing you should know is that God can talk to you through your gift, He will make you a custodian of everything he has told you. Meaning, God expects you to keep secrets, don’t be surprised I said, ‘God keep secrets with man’, ‘Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.’ Amos 3:7.
Joseph began to understand his gifts, when his brothers threw him out of their midst, when they betrayed him. They sold him out as a slave and lied to their father that he had died. Yet his gift remained with him in the strange where he was sold into. Potiphar bought him as a slave and he realized that Joseph had a gift of making business prosper. Therefore, he promoted him to be incharge of all his concerns, except his wife
Your gift is meant to make you prosper, so you will need to learn a few things;
- Know that God gives every man gift according to his abilities. Matthew 25:15, James 1:17, Ephesians 7-11
- God talks to you personally through your gift. Genesis 37: 3-5, 1Kings17: 2-9.
- The word gift appears 104 times in the bible.
- Your gift is meant to make you do God’s will only. Matthew 26: 39
- Your gift is meant for your prosperity. Proverbs 17: 8
- You must use your gift to help others around you, even a whole nation. Jeremiah 1: 1-10
- Finally, glorify God with what you have, your gift.
