CHAPTER ONE——————————INDIVIUALISM

WHAT IS INDIVIDUALISM?

A virtual mobile dictionary defined Individualism, thus; (A) the tendency for a person to act without reference to others, particularly in matters of style, fashion or mode of thought. (B) The moral stance, political philosophy, or social outlook that promotes independence and self-reliance of individual people, while opposing the interference with each person’s choices by society, the state, or any other group or institution.

Individualism therefore, can be defined as an accepted set of process and principles by which either a person or group of people live in, by belief, education or other factors that bind humanity (food, clothing and shelter).

GENERAL AND HUMAN INDIVIDUALISM

There are several approaches to individualism but in this note, we come from the angle of Desire. It’s more like saying, “what an individual will desire at a given time”.

An average human being would think that he has become what he is by the strings of Choices he had made over the years. This is very true, the Choices we make, make or mar us into whatever shape we desire to be. Yet, the truth remains that, everytime you make a choice, especially choices that lingers between two or more best options, you may lose-out on certain desires you dropped for others, as the case may present itself.

Therefore, your individualism according to your desire is compromised, because you however did not make that decision according to your personal belief system which is one of the basis of your desire system make up, rather, you made that decision according to how nature presented her logical case to you or external influence.

In this case, you may credit yourself for being realistic in your decision IQ despite your loss on a certain desire but you are wrong and maybe right as well. You are just being a rational human being, capable of making the right choices and not necessarily the best choices. You may make a right choices but it may not be in your best opinion, interest or desire.

Every rational human being should have a scale of preference where items of needs and wants are weighed and valued per time. It is discovered that most of the things we desire always gear towards our endless wants. Therefore we do not often want what we need rather, we turn our superfluous wants into extravagant needs whose source maybe from the boiling point of Desire. Hence, we can’t always chose our desires over important needs, in this case, the individual is disciplined and his desires are in check. By that fact, you will chose what you need and not what you want because of your logical and rational thinking capacity.

Our Individualism vary in degrees, and at this stage, your degree of individualism is built up on your knowledge, accepted truth about life, dreams, desires and aspirations per time. It is the reason why you are different from the over Seven billion people on earth. When it comes to desires, no one is left out, no one is essentially wise or foolish, rather the set of priorities we should have, is a setting benchmark of the things we are allowed to crave and desire for.

No rational human being should set his priorities according to his earnest desires, rather according to the hierarchy of his Needs per time. Therefore, your individualism according to desire is compromised with reasonable facts. Your individualism desire is only desire based without logical thinking, which makes your thinking content incomplete.

Individualism is sometimes hereditary but not always genetically inherited. Being humans as we are, we can copy behaviors, habits from friends, family, loved ones, tradition, and culture and from our intellectual perspective of rational moral stance called “self-generated principles” which is essential for individual discipline. Individualism is the largest part of our basic make up from childhood until old age. Therefore, the discovery of the four major temperaments; the Sanguine, the Choleric, the Melancholy and the Phlegmatic became visible, not to separate the human phenomena of Individualism, rather to segregate the various human behavior. To make known the knowledge with sharp sequester from mixed assumptions of the human behavior.

There is a common mistake some people make or little understanding of these titles; Character, Attitude, and Personality, to clear this notion, Individualism is very different form these brand of human makeup. These terms will be explained in pages to come.

In Temperaments, I learnt that opposite attract, same as individualism. Whatever makes you different and unique is attractive enough for another person who as little or nothing of what you have in abundance. Automatically, Individualism affects our choices and the longevity of the time we able to hold on to the choices we make.

People are different even if they are twins, separated from the same eggs, brothers, sisters, niece, husband, wife e.t.c. Even if we have the same background, if possible, “the same knowledge”, same parents, same school, we know too well that we are different.

Individualism also makes way for animals, place or thing, organization, country, nation or people. Every entity on earth is unique, you may have pets conceived by the same parents, but if you look closely, you will see the difference.

Where there is Individualism, there is a Belief System, and where there is a Belief system, there is the highest form of our Belief system.

In every belief system, there is always a highest form of the belief system; be it knowledge, IQ (Intelligence Quotient), Idol, Tradition, Culture or a Supreme Being or Deity. This we have decided to make as our final mark on any situation of life, because every belief system has its own logic and illogical methods of persuasion. As for me, the highest or Supreme judge of my belief system is God, in the most logical and illogical means.
