Champions League Draw: Liverpool to face Manchester City in quarter finals

The draw will see Pep Guardiola’s men travel first to Anfield on 4th April in the midst of a daunting run of fixtures which includes a Manchester Derby on April 7 and a return leg back at The Ethiad Stadium on April 11, while same fate awaits Jurgen Klopp’s men, who also will be having a derby match against Everton on April 8 in the midst of the two legged fixtures against Manchester City in the same period.

“It’s a very difficult one. We like to travel and to go to another country in the Champions League but it is what it is” said Man City director of football, Txiki Begiristain

He added “We know each other very well, they are a very offensive team, the truth is it is going to be a great couple of games and we are going to see good football.’

The tie between Liverpool and Manchester City will be the first meeting between Premier league sides in the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010-11 when Chelsea faced Manchester United.

In Jurgen Klopp”s reaction to the draw “I’ve said it before and it’s still the truth, it’s always common in a draw that you’ll get your neighbor, more or less, but to be honest I don’t mind, really,””We are for sure not the favourites in this round, but in the last eight there are not a lot of favourites – maybe two of them, Bayern and Barcelona.” added Klopp.

The two English clubs have already played each other twice in the Premier League this season with Manchester City romping to a 5-0 home win last September, but Liverpool had their revenge back at Anfield in January, though in a quite gentle mannaer  when they inflicted what so far has been the only Premier League defeat for City, who were beaten 4-3 in what could have been a 4-1 defeat for Manchester City but thanks to the two late goals adding some respectability to the final scoreline.
