1.USA

US and 11 Pacific rim countries ink disputed trade deal

The United States and 11 other Pacific Rim countries have agreed to a controversial trade pact that cuts trade barriers, sets labour and environmental standards and protects multinational corporations’ intellectual property.

It aims to counter the might of China and will cut trade barriers affecting everything from the price of cheese to the cost of cancer treatments.

The agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was reached on Monday after lengthy negotiating sessions in the US city of Atlanta through the weekend.

2. MIDDLE EAST

Hotel used by Yemeni Prime Minister hit in Aden

Explosions rocked the Qasr hotel, the headquarters of the UAE’s forces in the city and a residence early on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Khaled Bahah and members of his government escaped unharmed.

There were conflicting reports about the causes of the blasts, and no immediate claim of responsibility.

Yemeni government spokesman Rajeh Badi told the Associated Press that rockets were fired at the three locations from outside the city limits.

3. EUROPE

Denmark moves to tighten citizenship requirement

Politicians in Denmark have agreed to make it more difficult to acquire citizenship in the country.

The Northern European country last month cut benefits for asylum seekers in another move to deter an influx of refugees and economic migrants.

“Acquiring Danish citizenship is something very special, and therefore it is also reasonable that we now raise the bar for when a person can call themselves a Danish citizen,” integration minister Inger Stojberg said in a statement on Monday.

Those wanting to become Danish nationals will have to meet tougher requirements on language skills and be financially self-sufficient for four years and six months of the past five years, up from the current two years and six months.

4. AFRICA, GHANA

Ghana suspends High Court judges after Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ film

Ghana has suspended seven of 12 High Court judges implicated in allegations of bribery stemming from a documentary made by an investigative journalist.

The seven had a case of “misbehaviour” to answer, an official statement said.

Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas says he has nearly 500 hours of video evidence on tape, showing judges alleging asking for bribes and demanding sex.

Twenty-two lower court judges have also been suspended. Some of the judges have denied the allegations.

Mr Anas’ documentary has shocked the nation, and has been shown to packed houses at cinemas in the capital, Accra.

Nigeria under 17 face Argentina in friendly on Tuesday

The Golden Eaglets are currently in the south American country to fine tune strategies for their title defence at the 2015 Fifa UU17 World Cup billed for Chile later this month. The Golden Eaglets are pooled in Group A alongside Chile, Croatia and the United States of America.

Eagles begin training in Belgium

The Super Eagles, yesterday, commenced training for the two international friendlies in Belgium, with 15 players at the R. Battice FC training ground.

Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, defenders Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose, William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun; midfielders Sylvester Igbonu, Rabiu Ibrahim, Ogenyi Onazi and Obiora Nwankwo and forwards Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Emmanuel Emenike and Alex Iwobi were led by England-based midfielder John Mikel Obi at training.

The team will train twice today (10am and 4pm) at the same venue, according to the team’s administrator.

Liverpool close in on Jorgen Klopp

On the Eve o f their five year anniversary, Fenway Sports Group are finally on the verge of landing the manager they have always coveted at the third attempt as Jorgen Klopp closes in on a three year deal.

Negotiations with the double German manager of the year are at an advanced stage, with the understanding he will head to Merseyside in the next 48 hours. The club is confident of finalizing matters on Friday.
